There are a lot of terrific shows to see, hear, and experience tonight and in the next few days. Whether you like classical music or rock opera there’s something for you. Get off the couch, get out of the sports bar, and get some culture tonight.

 

Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ Superstar begins previews today at the Neil Simon Theater. Opening night will be March 22 for this show that Variety called, “a triumph!” This classic rock opera was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and this production is directed by two-time Tony Award®-winning director Des McAnuff. Flamenco Festival 2012
City Center kicks of it’s Flamenco Festival today March 1 and it runs through the 4th. They will be showcasing great female flamenco choreographers: Rafaela Carrasco, Manuela Carrasco, Carmen Cortés and Olga Pericet. Each will demonstrate their individual style and take on flamenco. Tickets start at $35. Ticket holders can participate in a free flamenco dance class prior to the shows in the theater’s Grand Tier Lobby 90 min before curtain. Tickets available here.

The New York Philharmonic
The New York Philharmonic will be performing The Modern Beethoven: Symphony Nos. 2 and 7. Tickets range from $46.00-$137.00. Performances are March 1st at 7:30 pm, March 2nd at 2pm, March 3 at 8pm, and March 6th at 2pm. Tickets available here.

MoMa Nights with DJ Huggy Bear
MoMa is open late the first Thursday  of every month with a DJ, drinks, and special terrace menu. DJ Huggy Bear (Stephen Barr) will spin soul, funk, groove, jazz, rock, disco, 80s, world, house, hip-hop, and freestyle from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Paper magazine nominated him for Best New Party of the year for his Saturday-night sets in the lobby of Manhattan’s Ace Hotel. The cash bar is open from 5:30pm to 8pm. Their is also a prix fixe menu entitled Winter Warmer: a Cozy Feast for Urban Dwellers for $32 from 5pm to 7pm. More info here.
