CityMaps Privacy Policy

CityMaps’ Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) is designed to provide a clear understanding of the information we collect and how we use it to provide users with a better experience. For purposes of this Agreement, the terms “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to CityMaps. “You” refers to you, as a user of citymaps.com. By accepting our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use (found here: Terms of Use), you consent to our collection, storage, use and disclosure of your personal information and other information as described in this Privacy Policy.

  2. How we use and share information
  3. How we protect information
  4. Your rights regarding the use of your personal information
  5. Links to other websites
  6. Changes to our privacy policy

I. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect both “Personal Information” and “Non-Personal Information.” Personal Information is information that you submit to us either through citymaps.com or through registering for CityMaps through another social networking site (such as Facebook), and that is personally identifiable, such as your name and email address. “Non-Personal Information” includes information that cannot be used to personally identify you, such as anonymous usage data, referring/exit pages and URLs, platform types, number of clicks. We collect various types of this information, including the following:

1. Information you provide us by registering for a CityMaps account

Visitors can access and browse the site without disclosing most Personal Information, although we do track your IP address when you browse the site. However, we also allow users to create their own profile on CityMaps to provide them a better and more customized experience, in which case we collect information users voluntarily provide through the registration process.

Users can create a profile in two ways. First, they can register directly through citymaps.com. When they do so, we collect a user’s name and email address, and offer them the option of additionally providing their mailing address and gender. Second, users can register to create a profile on CityMaps by connecting through a social networking site (“SNS”) that already contains their personal information, such as Facebook. The information you allow CityMaps to access varies by SNS platform, and is affected by the privacy settings you establish at the SNS. For example, CityMaps may access and store some or all of the following information, as allowed by you, the SNS, and your preferences:

  • your first and last name
  • your profile pictures or its URL
  • the login email you provided to that SNS when you registered
  • your address
  • your gender
  • your birthday
  • your interests and activities

By registering at CityMaps through an SNS, you are authorizing CityMaps to collect, store, and use any and all information you agreed the SNS could provide to CityMaps through the SNS Application Programming Interface (“API”), in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Your agreement takes place when you accept or allow an SNS to register you for a CityMaps account.

2. Information collected via Technology

In addition to the personal information you voluntarily provide when you register, in an effort to improve the quality of CityMaps’s service, we track information provided to us by your browser when you view the site, such as the website you came from (known as the “referring URL”), the type of browser you use, the time and date of access, and other information that does not personally identify you. We do so by sending one or more cookies to your computer that uniquely identify your browser. A cookie is a small text file composed of alphanumeric letters, which includes an anonymous unique identifier, that is sent to a user’s browser from our servers and is stored on the user’s computer hard drive. Doing so allows us to collect Non-Personal information about our users and keep a record of user preferences when utilizing CityMaps’s services, both on an individual basis and in the aggregate. For example, CityMaps may use cookies to compile the following information:

  • the number of times a user views their profile
  • the number of times a user clicks on the map
  • the number of times a merchant profile page is viewed
  • the number of times a user clicks through to other sites linked to CityMaps
  • the number of times each posting is viewed
  • the number of times a posting is shared through a social network

CityMaps may use both persistent and session cookies; persistent cookies remain on your computer after you close your session and until you delete them, while session cookies expire when you close your browser. For example, we store a persistent cookie to track a user’s last known location on the citymaps.com map. This way, when the user returns to the map, the map refreshes at exactly the same place as it was when the user left.
